Canon Inc. has secured a significant recognition for its environmental efforts, receiving an A score from CDP, a renowned U.K.-based non-profit organization, in the Climate Change category. This prestigious ranking, the highest achievable, acknowledges Canon's leadership and transparency in tackling climate challenges.

CDP acts as a global platform where companies and local governments disclose data on their environmental practices, particularly concerning climate change and water resource management. The organization rigorously evaluates these disclosures, with a record number of over 24,000 entities participating in 2023. This marks Canon's third time achieving the coveted A List designation in the Climate Change category, previously earning the accolade in 2016 and 2020.

Guided by its "kyosei" philosophy, which translates to "living and working together for the common good," Canon prioritizes achieving a sustainable balance between environmental wellbeing and societal progress. The company actively champions various environmental conservation initiatives across four key areas: Climate Change, Resource Efficiency, Chemical Substances, and Biodiversity.

In its fight against climate change, Canon has set ambitious goals aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) criteria. They aim to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) by 42% and Scope 3 Category 1 and 11 GHG emissions by 25% by 2030, using 2022 as the baseline.

Furthermore, since 2008, Canon has established a continuous improvement goal, targeting a 3% annual decrease in the lifecycle CO2 emissions per product unit. By 2023, the company has achieved a remarkable 44.4% improvement, exceeding the initial target with an average annual reduction rate of 3.95%.

Looking ahead, Canon remains dedicated to achieving net zero lifecycle CO2 emissions per product unit (Scope 1-3) by 2050. This ambitious goal will be pursued through various strategies, including incorporating renewable energy sources, implementing energy-saving measures in production facilities, and fostering advanced resource circulation practices like product reuse and recycling.

Canon's ongoing commitment to technological innovation and enhanced managerial efficiency holds significant potential to contribute to lowering CO2 emissions across the broader society. This recognition by CDP serves as a testament to the company's dedication to environmental stewardship and its continued efforts to build a more sustainable future.
